Snootful

I got a snootful of myself today.  I was waiting for a PRIMO parking place at Green Acres at lunch time today.  As a car backed out, a big white car whipped into the space, ala "Fried Green Tomatoes."   It was an older man & as I picked a different place I was thinking some not so kind things about him.

So as I got out I saw him waiting for me.  As he was apologizing I felt myself shrink into a puddle of burning embers, just like the Wicked Witch of the West.  Yikkos.

I would say I got a good dose.  Hopefully my brain and heart registered this lesson and I won't fail it so horribly next time.

I can't stop laughing

Probably my favorite picture of Emma is one when she and Tucker were babies.  She is peeking from around the back of him and it makes me crack up every time I see it.

This picture is a close second.  Jill had taken the girls to Old Navy and Emma walked off as Jill was checking out.  This is where she found her.  I have laughed about it all day.

Musings....

Why is it that I was quick to discipline my own kids with few regrets but when I hear about the grandkids getting in trouble it just kills me?  It's not that I disagree that they needed to be in trouble.  I totally support their parents in lowering the boom.  It will make the "littles"  so much more pleasant to be around, but it still rips my heart out.

It more than likely has to do with the fact that the kids are totally entertained at my house and I am not subjected to the day in, day out routine that can cause grumpiness.

Boo Hoo.  He got in trouble.

Don't be fooled by this adorable face.  Sister needs a shock collar.  If ANYONE needs to be constantly watched, it's this one.  Trust me, I know.  She ate a large amount of my lip balm this week.

Old Friends are the best friends

Once I started working after my kids were in school,  I worked in a chiropractic office.  We hired a massage therapist and we quickly became very good friends.  NO ONE has made me laugh harder and we have such a history of hysterical moments that are probably best left unsaid.  Sometimes you meet people that bring out the "inner you."  Linda is that type of person.  Unfortunately she moved to Seattle many years ago.  We've stayed in touch but yesterday she emailed me and said she was in town.

She stopped by the office and the years fell away.  My heart is warmed through and through.  AND I found a $1 coin in the parking lot at Bed, Bath & Beyond so it was a GOOD DAY!!

What NOT to say.....

I will admit that I have tasted my own foot in my mouth more than I would like to admit. We are all guilty of having the best intentions, yet saying the wrong thing, and then feeling horrible about what we said, or worse yet, being absolutely clueless about our comment.

And the older I get, the more I realize that it is just smart to keep your trap shut if you don't know what to say. I was talking to my daughter Katy about this. She made a brilliant comment in regards to someone about to give birth. Instead of saying, "when are you going to have that baby? " Or commenting on how tired, huge or miserable the poor woman looks, she said the perfect thing to say is "I hope you feel as beautiful as you look." GENIUS!!

So here is my rant. The two people in question meant me no harm. I actually find their comments hilarious but it was a good lesson to me to be very careful in complimenting someone.

#1 I ran into a friend at Sam's that hadn't seen me in a while. She said she barely recognized me since I have lost weight. Then, I kid you not, she wheeled around and looked at my BUTT. I so wanted to say, "did you just check out my butt?" Like I said, it was funny, but oh so obvious.

#2 I was mentioning to an extended family member that I had donated some very nice but too big clothes to the Joplin tornado effort. She told me she was sure that they could use them because from the looks of the people on TV, there were some very big people in Joplin. Really? You just said that to me??

Ok, that's it. I am sure there will be more. You just have to laugh.
